Demel's displays: Almost impossible to des-cake!

Demel’s store display can be considered a true piece of Vienna. It was the winter of 1933 when Baron Federico Berzeviczy-Pallavicini first stepped foot into the establishment on Kohlmarkt. The artist, who Josef Hoffmann once referred to as “the last romantic”, married Klara Demel, significantly shaping Vienna’s cityscape henceforth. During the war he first emigrated to Italy, then America in order to further develop his artistic career. After his return he immediately commenced staging store displays as Vienna had never seen them before. This tradition has since continued – at times even provocatively, when concerned with certain events of the day. To this day, the store displays exhibit the increasingly forgotten confectionery art – carefully designed and crafted by our confectioners and our creative industrial design team.
